Description: APD Disaster Healthcare Worker/Responder Preparedness & Resilience Program assists healthcare and other community partners in organizational planning for response and continuity planning.
Outcome: Developing and maximizing disaster healthcare worker/responder resilience capabilities mitigates the negative health (including mental health) outcomes (i.e. depression, post-traumatic stress, anxiety and substance abuse) that creates barriers in the ability and willingness for healthcare workers/responders to perform during and after mass casualty incidents and large-scale disasters. These barriers can also have a direct effect on rebuilding organizational systems (including healthcare) to their pre-incident levels of function.

Merritt Schreiber, PhD. is Associate Clinical Professor and Director, Psychological Programs in the Center for Disaster Medicine, University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. Dr. Schreiber is involved in the development of best practice models bridging disaster medical, mental and public health in mass casualty events.
